Dr. Philip Twu is a Robotics System Engineer in the Aerial and Orbital Image Analysis Group. He earned a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2012, where his research focused on decentralized coordination algorithms for multi-robot systems. From 2012-2017, Philip was at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (JHU/APL) where he worked on and took leadership roles in a diverse range of projects including end-to-end analysis of networked sensor systems, science analysis software for small solar system bodies, modeling and simulation of space systems, and fault management for the Parker Solar Probe mission.

Since joining JPL in 2017, Philip has had essential roles in both technology development and flight projects. His contributions span from designing and evaluating autonomy algorithms for coordinating unmanned vehicle swarms, to being the systems engineer for rover navigation on the Mars 2020 mission.
