Dr. Philip Twu is a Robotics System Engineer in the Maritime and Aerial Perception Systems Group. He earned a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2012, where his research focused on decentralized coordination algorithms for multi-robot systems. From 2012-2017, Philip was at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (JHU/APL) where he worked on and took leadership roles in a diverse range of projects including end-to-end analysis of networked air and missile defense systems, science analysis software for small solar system bodies, modeling and simulation of space systems, and fault management for the Parker Solar Probe mission.

Since joining JPL in 2017, Philip has designed autonomy algorithms for coordinating unmanned vehicle swarms to accomplish complex mission objectives. Philip is also on the Mars 2020 Rover mission where he develops algorithms and software for the Sampling and Caching Subsystem (SCS) testbed.
