PIXL Optical Fiducial System

PIXL Optical Fiducial System
A description of the components of the PIXL sensor and its placement on the rover arm.
PIXL (Planetary Instrument for X-RAY Lithochemistry) is a micro x-ray florescence spectrometer instrument being built to fly on the proposed Mars 2020 mission. The instrument would be mounted on the rover arm, and would be used to characterize the composition of mineral samples within the rover workspace. In support of this activity, the instrument includes a structured light projector and camera system to be used to localize the instrument relative to the sample, and to map the topography of the surrounding area. Section 347 is assisting in the design and calibration of this structured light system.
