Advanced Development Team Extraction, Insertion, and Manipulation Testing
The manipulation test bed for ADT-EIM testing.
The Advanced Development Team (ADT) is a Mars Program Office entity that acts as a stand-in for the conceptual Mars Sample Return Orbiter (SRO) and Sample Return Lander (SRL) missions to ensure that decisions made in current Mars missions do not negatively affect downstream mission success for potentially returning samples from Mars. The Extraction-Insertion-and Manipulation (EIM) testing task focuses on the validation of requirements on the Mars 2020 sample tube from the Interface Requirements Document (IRD) between the Mars 2020 mission and ADT. The validation work focuses on key elements of the conceptual SRL sample transfer chain from ground pickup to securing the sample tubes inside a conceptual Orbiting Sample (OS) capsule.
