Transformers for Extreme Environments

Transformers for Extreme Environments
Conceptual artwork showing transformers on a crater rim reflecting sunlight into the shadowed regions of the crater, providing power and heat to a rover there.
Transformers are shape-changing robotic systems embodied in thin-layer surfaces that can remotely project/control a favorable micro-environment around an exploration area of interest within an extreme environment. For example, placed on the sunny rim of a permanently-shadowed crater, or at the entrance to a cave, Transformers could reflect sunlight powering the solar panels and warming the body of a rover exploring the bottom of the crater of depths of a cave.
