Sampling Chain for Primitive Body Surface Sample Return

Sampling Chain for Primitive Body Surface Sample Return
Steps of the sampling action.
The objective of this task is to demonstrate and validate sampling technologies for potential primitive body sample return missions, primarily focusing on comet surface sampling. The effort includes developing all elements of the sample chain consisting of the sampling tool, a device to deploy the sampling tool (e.g., a robotic arm), a method and sensor to measure the quantity of the acquired sample, and the system to transfer the sample canister to the return capsule. The task culminates in an end-to-end 6-DOF demonstration in collaboration with the System Level Proximity Operations Demo for Primitive Bodies initiative.
