Research Tasks

JPL will perform the role of deputy leader of the Micro Autonomous Systems and Technology (MAST) Integration Center. This includes serving as the MAST Joint Experiments Coordinator, and performing research tasks as defined in the Annual Program Plan.

JPL research for MAST targets five areas: 1) mathematical models of micro air/ground vehicles for sizing studies; 2) performance studies of vision-aided navigation systems; 3) vision systems for finding safe landing sites; 4) vision systems for guiding unmanned air vehicles to enter buildings through doors or windows; and, 5) mapping of doors and windows during indoor exploration by unmanned ground vehicles.

JPL is partnered with BAE Systems which leads this research effort.
