Implementation and Automation of Imaging Technologies for Angel Fire

Angel Fire is a DoD surveillance system that provides real-time situational mission awareness. It consists of a gimbaled airborne sensing platform, an array of digital cameras, navigation sensors, and software that geo-references the imagery and compresses data for ground transmission and real-time displays.

JPL has already provided calibration and image processing technology to support the Angel Fire system, and now JPL is involved in a Phase 2 effort to reconstruct 3D terrain data from 2D imagery and improve inertial pointing estimation for the Angel Fire system.
