Humanoid Robot for Intelligent Handling and Assembly Tasks
Hope 2, turning on one leg.
The JPL Humanoid team, in collaboration with University Partners, is developing efficient robot fostering techniques for sensory-motor development of humanoid robots. Key elements of the fostering techniques include teaching/learning by imitation, teaching by description/explanation, reinforcement, aid and collaboration. The effort focuses on the robotics counterpart of human cognitive and motor development that would create a more efficient man-machine interaction. The overall objective is replacing humans operating in unsafe environments. A first target application is assembly of structures for future lunar-planetary bases. The initial development platform is a Fujitsu HOAP-2 robot.
