With Scientific Systems Company, Inc. (SSCI), JPL Robotics is developing FIXATE for the United States Navy. The Navy has been increasing its use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), with each vehicle capturing many hours of imagery data while in flight. FIXATE is our approach to automating the analysis of UAV imagery. FIXATE will track targets identified as interesting in UAV videos, as well as localize targets itself. The Navy is especially interested in exploring biomimetic methods, and we have adopted an approach that leverages algorithms based on human attention that filter out uninteresting regions in an image.
