Biography

Mark Powell is a Senior Member of the Technical Staff in the Mobility Systems Concept Development Section at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, CA since 2001. His dissertation work was in the area of advanced illumination modeling, color and range image processing applied to robotics and medical imaging. At JPL his area of focus is science data visualization and science planning for telerobotics. He is currently serving as a software and systems engineer for technology program and flight program activities, both ongoing and new. Mark is a member of the Maestro development team.

  • M.S. Computer Science in 1997, University of South Florida, Tampa.
  • B.S. Computer Science in 1992, University of South Florida, Tampa.

  • Mars Exploration Rover mission science planning interface (Maestro)
  • Cliffbot operations interface (Maestro)
  • Mars Science Laboratory science operations interface (MSLICE)

Research Interests

Human-robot interface, machine vision, computer graphics, scientific visualization, software engineering.
