Two overlapping images and a detail of their seamless mosaic.
The main objective of this project is to provide mature technology development efforts to eliminate the image artifacts caused by the image acquisition system and its interaction with the geo-referencing system providing, in real time, a pristine image. The Computer Vision Group at JPL, under the sponsorship of NASA and DOD, has developed robust image processing algorithms that include calibration for arbitrary cameras, photometric and geometric image corrections procedures, mosaicking and seamless stitching, image enhancement and noise reduction procedures, and image rectification and matching procedures. These procedures will be adapted to meet the needs of the imaging system and extended to facilitate their use on site by trained personnel.
