This is the original Surveyor Lunar Rover Vehicle (SLRV) built by General Motors (Greg Bekker, Ferenz Pavlics, et al.) in 1963-64. It is shown in the arroyo adjacent to JPL after its delivery. It was controlled by a handheld RC unit, with a few discrete transistors and relays forming the on-board control system. The mast could go up and down a bit to create a vertical-stereo baseline for simple ranging. This vehicle was later retrofitted, painted, and renamed the Blue Rover.
