GROUP: Advanced Robotic Controls (3475)

The Advanced Robotic Controls Group leads technology development and mission infusion of high-level autonomous controls for robotic systems. These technologies include:

  • Applied AI Techniques
  • Behavior-Based Control
  • Adaptive/Smart Controls
  • On-Board Learning
  • Perception-Based Reasoning
  • Automated Decision-Making

Target robotic systems include mobile robots, manipulator arms, robotic spacecraft, and unmanned vehicles. The technologies developed in this group will enable these robots to operate intelligently in space missions, as well as in terrestrial applications. Areas of continued research include:

  • Terrain Traversability Analysis and Obstacle Detection
  • Autonomous Rover Navigation
  • Rover Path Planning
  • Safe Spacecraft Landing
  • Multi-Robot Coordination and Control
  • Distributed Robotic Control
  • Pattern Analysis and Recognition
